In the crisp embrace of a cold November night, something special unfolded at WILDE. With the unwavering support of our friends Liam and Jordan from the TIE organisation, we triumphantly submitted our application for charitable status to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR). This moment wasn't just about paperwork; it was a shared venture, a collaborative effort fueled by passion and purpose. 

As the digital forms clicked into place, we felt the warmth of community and the promise of positive change. This chilly night became a milestone etched with friendship, marking the beginning of a journey where every step is taken hand-in-hand with those who believe in the transformative power of education and well-being. With excitement bubbling in the cold air, we look forward to the next chapters and the collective impact we're destined to create.

We were all excited to read the recently published Hayward Report,  'It's Our Future: Report of the Independent Review of Qualifications and Assessment.'  This comprehensive report, spearheaded by Professor Louise Hayward, not only aligns seamlessly with the core values and goals of WILDE but also signifies a crucial milestone in the collective journey to transform the educational landscape in Scotland.

1.  A Holistic Approach to Learning and Development

We were delighted to see that the Hayward Report resonates deeply with WILDE's mission to foster holistic development in learners. The emphasis on re imagining assessment by striking a balance between internal evidence and external assessments is precisely the approach WILDE champions. Our vision for a comprehensive learning experience, extending beyond traditional examination-centric evaluations, finds resonance in the report's call to reduce the number of exams and integrate diverse evidence, including the judicious use of digital technology.

2.  Breaking Down Barriers: Academic and Vocational Integration

The Hayward Report's recommendation to integrate academic and vocational qualifications echoes the ethos of WILDE. We believe in breaking down barriers between different types of qualifications to create a seamless learning environment for all young people. The report's emphasis on ensuring that qualifications at the same level are valued equally aligns perfectly with WILDE's commitment to achieving SCQF points and to offering diverse learning pathways, tailored to the unique talents and aspirations of each young person.

3.  Embracing Digital Innovation: A Vision Shared

It is great to see a call for better use of digital technology in assessments and the creation of a digital learner profile in the Hayward Report - this is music to our ears at WILDE! We share a vision that recognises the transformative power of digital innovation in enhancing the learning experience. This alignment with digital advancements not only prepares students for the challenges of the modern world but also facilitates a more personalised and interactive educational journey.

4. The Scottish Diploma of Achievement: Celebrating Diversity

The proposal for a Scottish Diploma of Achievement outlined in the Hayward Report aligns seamlessly with WILDE's commitment to recognising and rewarding a diverse range of achievements. This innovative diploma, encompassing subjects, projects reflecting learning in context, and personal pathways, resonates with WILDE's vision of acknowledging both academic and extracurricular accomplishments as valuable contributions to a student's overall growth.

5. Community Engagement: A Collective Endeavour

Finally, acknowledging Connect and the National Parent Forum of Scotland's involvement in the Qualifications and Assessment Review Group, as highlighted in the report, underscores the importance of parental and community engagement in the education system. WILDE, too,  has always placed a strong emphasis on collaboration between educators, parents, and the broader community. We believe that a collective effort is essential for the success of educational transformations, and we are proud to be part of this collaborative endeavour.
